Does the Time Clock Support Offline Mode?

Whether Connecteam clocking works without an internet connection, and the one API-based exception for physical clock devices.

Written by Ilan Buchbinder

The Connecteam Mobile app, Kiosk app, and Desktop Time Clock do not support offline clock in or clock out. Employees need an active internet connection to clock in or out, and this includes NFC clocking inside the Connecteam product.

There is one exception, and it applies only to custom physical clock integrations built with the Connecteam API.

The Standard Product Requires an Internet Connection

Clocking in and out through Connecteam requires connectivity on every punch. This applies to:

  1. The Connecteam Mobile app.

  2. The Kiosk app.

  3. The Desktop Time Clock.

  4. NFC clocking within the Connecteam product.

If the device is offline, employees cannot clock in or out through these surfaces.

The Exception: Physical Clock Integrations via API

Connecteam’s API supports an offline workflow for custom physical clock device integrations, such as kiosks, biometric terminals, or NFC stations built against the API. These devices can queue punches locally while offline and sync them once the connection returns, sending the original punch time so the timesheet reflects when the employee actually clocked.

This capability is intended only for physical clock integrations through the API. It is not available in the Connecteam Mobile app, Kiosk app, Desktop app, or for in-product NFC clocking.

If you are interested in building this type of integration, refer to the Real-Time Clocking API documentation rather than assuming the standard product provides offline support.

FAQ

Can employees clock in on the mobile app without internet?

No. The mobile app requires an active connection to clock in or out.

Does NFC clocking work offline?

No. NFC clocking within the Connecteam product still requires connectivity.

Is there any way to record offline punches?

Only through a custom physical clock integration built on the Connecteam API, which can queue and later sync punches.
