The training session itself is the peak event for an organization that sees the importance of constant professional improvement for their business. Surrounding the training is a series of steps that create a great overall learning experience that builds up to the training session itself and amplifies the impact of the training. It also ensures that participants gain the maximum benefit from the experience, which helps overcome the challenges of employee training.

Only with an all-in-one platform, that combines communication tools, chat, surveys, and feed updates, alongside knowledge-supporting platforms such as a robust knowledge management center - can this be possible.

In this article, we will advise on some useful steps and Connecteam tools to include at every phase of the training*:

*These steps suit both in-person and virtual training.

Pre-Training

  1. Create a smart group for all training participants. This will enable you to assign and manage content strictly for this group of participants.

  2. Open a chat group for all the employees participating in the training. This group will serve as the environment in which everyone can ask questions, make clarifications, raise dilemmas and more. It's the conversation center for the course participants.

  3. Send teaser content via chat or updates. Teasers increase motivation to attend and strengthen what we know as the 'FOMO effect'. Ask questions that no one knows the answer to, generate an appetite for learning, and create dilemmas and thought-provoking elements. For instance - “Do you know how to properly sell our new makeup? Next week you will learn!”; “Coming up next week - the complete training that will turn you into a sales monster!”.

  4. For in-person training - create an event to easily track attendance, deliver related updates (location/hour change), and distribute the event.

  5. Create an onboarding course for participants to easily and independently learn everything they need to know about the company, protocols, and professional materials. Use our ready-made onboarding template to get started!

Mid-Training

  1. Monitor progress during the training and gather all the relevant data you need to make sure everyone passes the training with flying colors. Check participants' completion rates and scores, and send reminders to complete the material if necessary.

  2. Encourage active participation in the chat group. Send messages anytime there are changes throughout the course of the training, and have participants ask questions and share knowledge. For example, “The next meeting was moved to Room 102”; "Does anyone have questions from the session? Send them here and we'll be sure to answer"; so on and so forth.

  3. Spread positive energy by sending Updates with memorable moments, such as pictures from a company night out or of participants in the midst of a study session.

  4. Keep participants on their toes by testing knowledge using Quizzes or Updates. For instance, "Awesome job on the first session! Let’s see if you remember - Can anyone list the 5 steps for CPR right off the bat?"

End of training (immediately after)

  1. Test knowledge using Quizzes (and also throughout the whole training) to make sure that the material learned was understood and will be implemented.

  2. Reward training participants and make them feel that they participated in a worthwhile session that is important to their professional development and improvement. Add this as an incentive for participants who got the highest scores on the tests, for example.

  3. Recognize those who completed the training with a designated badge, visible in their profile and published company-wide. This will give the participants a sense of accomplishment. Attach a message like "Kudos for working hard and successfully completing the training".

  4. Create a diploma and upload it to Documents to store the qualification certificate in the employee’s personal files. Again, a sense of accomplishment.

  5. Send the training summary as an Update to recap the session.

Post-training (several days/weeks later)

  1. Send a Survey to gather feedback for continuous improvement towards the next training session. Send surveys in several time frames.

  2. Send a poll or survey to check who remembers the learned materials. In the first few days, check if the material was understood. After a month, check if the material was understood in retrospect and if the content was implemented.

  3. Add materials to the Knowledge Base and turn the learned material into something accessible to the daily ongoing work.

  4. Send links to the Knowledge Base in the chat.

By following the steps in every phase, you're bound to have a high-quality and successful training session. By leveraging Connecteam's extensive range of features, organizations can cover all essential elements of training, fostering a seamless flow of knowledge acquisition.
